Pantone's 2014 Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid

Purple has never really been a favorite color of mine, but now that Pantone has named Radiant Orchid as the color of 2014 I find myself more and more drawn to this rich hue.  I'm not sure if the love of emerald I have will be overtaken by orchid this year, but in time we will see!  Here is a roundup of of some of twelve lovely radiant orchid pieces that will bring a little richness of color into your life!

Cobalt Crush

As a girl who loves blue, I couldn't be more pleased that cobalt is one of fall's hottest hues.  This vibrant  color can be seen on everything from coats to clutches, and even an evening's smokey eye.  When styling an outfit, try pairing this blue with cranberry, grey, marigold, and even animal print.  Click below for some great buys in this hot peacock color, and let me know if you have any great cobalt finds for your fall wardrobe!

Summer colors

This summer I have been drawn to bright, fun colors and lightweight fabrics with little layering involved.  It's been a hot one so far, people!  With the end of July here (where did this month go, by the way??), I know that we still have a few weeks of summer left, so I will continue to dress in summer attire, but all the while I may or may not be already dreaming of fall outfits.

Green, green, the grass is green!  On the far side of the hill!
With a few very special events coming up, all I can think about is the fun that is going to be had, and that green jewelry will be the thing to wear in honor of a person or two at said events.  Honestly, I would be overjoyed to own each and every one of these emerald pieces!  (You can see more of my love for all these hues of jade here, here, and here.) What is your favorite color jewelry to wear as of late?

Stella & Dot neck party!

When I saw this pendant banner, I immediately thought of my Stella & Dot Aileen necklace.  I mean, what is more fun to wear around your neck than a jewelry piece that immediately makes you think of a pretty party?

Have a great Wednesday, 3P wonderfuls!  (Also pictured here are my Stella & Dot Serenity Stone Drop earrings.)

Bachelorette Party DIYs

< little DIYs add the perfect personal touch to a girls' weekend >

What happens when your two best friends in life are both engaged at the same time, and both getting married within the same year?  Well, lots of exciting things, to be truthful.  And of course, one of the greatest reasons ever to plan a fun trip with them, a bunch of great friends, and schedule all kinds of weekend fun in celebration of their engagements.  For this joint bachelorette party I was so excited to plan for my two friends, I decided I have to practically infuse all kinds of pretty, particularly of the DIY genre.  Since the bachelorette weekend was scheduled by the beach, I decided to create a palm tree theme with both of their favorite colors, and a splash of gold here and there.  Some of the items I created for this getaway weekend were cork wine charms, a tissue paper tassel garland, cork coasters, and delicious sugar cookies.  These DIY projects are all pretty simple, but its all in the details, right?  These items were a hit during our bachelorette weekend, so let me know if you are interested in help with any of your bachelorette part details and I will be glad to get you some 3P details in the mix!

DIY cork wine charms
< supplies: wine corks, eye pins, 'ring' earrings, beads for decoration >

< DIY process: Soak corks in hot water for 10 or more minutes, cut to desired width.  Decorate as desired (I added each Bachelorette attendee's initials in gold puff paint on one side, and a dimensional palm tree sticker on the other side).  Poke eye pin through cork, bend the loose end and cover with a little glue.  Secure earring ring through eye pin, add decorative beads.  There you have it! >

< ta-da!  Each wine glass has a cute personalized touch >

DIY tissue tassel garland
< supplies: gather all the tissue paper colors you want to use, some sharp scissors, and string or twine in the length you need >

< DIY process: fold several sheets in half lengthwise, then once width wise.  Fold again width wise and cut strips (these are your tassels), leaving about 2 inches at the top.  Unfold once, and cut down the middle to create two sections.  Unfold again, and grab one or several pieces together.  Roll your uncut middle portion of each piece like a hot dog, taking care that the tassel pieces to not become tangled.  Then twist this rolled portion around itself to create a little loop.  Glue this loop to twine or rope to create your tassel.  Alternate colors and arrange spacing for a beautiful garland. >

< ta-da!  Although this tissue tassel garland became somewhat smashed and wrinkled during the plane ride across the country, it was still fun to incorporate into the weekend decorations.  And one of my friends loved the idea so much she asked my to make one for her wedding (glad that the one I'll make for her won't have to endure a plane flight)! >

DIY cork coasters
< supplies: blank cork coasters, painters pens, craft glue, and glitter >

< DIY process: Decorate as desired.  I basically hand drew a little logo on one side with my painters pens and let dry. I then covered the other side with glue and glitter.  Once both sides were dry, I sprayed each side with a sealant spray and let dry in between. >

< ta-da!  Cute little coasters that are useful during a bachelorette trip and make for a great little souvenir once the ladies' weekend is over. >

DIY sugar cookies
< supplies: cookie cutter of your choice and a batch or two of your favorite sugar cookies >

< DIY process: prepare sugar cookie dough as desired (I made mine from scratch and doubled the recipe). Cut into your desired shape (I got my cookie cutter at Sur la Table) and bake.  Frost as desired (My sweet grandma helped me frost these, and she used a powdered sugar frosting recipe, which we colored with green and pink food coloring to stay thematic with the weekend). >

< ta-da!  These homemade sweets were gobbled up during our bachelorette adventures. >

P.S.- See how all these DIYs were incorporated into this amazing bachelorette party weekend.

Winter color course

< blues for winter wear >

The promise of spring always provides much to look forward to- brighter days, colorful blossoms everywhere you look, the joy of the Easter season, and warmer days that don't call for layers and layers of tights and wool.  While I am also looking forward to the pastel colors that will once again be totally part of my spring wardrobe, I am happy to look back and see that my goal of wearing more color- not always black and dark shades- lasted even through the cold winter months.  Here is a roundup of a few colors I incorporated into my winter wardrobe this past season.

< pinks and purples- not the usual colors I am drawn to, but apparently becoming a 3P regular! >

< red always makes a great statement >

< leopard print (does that count as a color?)- I just love it >

 < maroon swoon >

< splashes of green with neutrals >

2013 Oscars Trends

Did you catch some of the beautiful red carpet fashion from yesterday's Oscars ceremony?  The 2013 red carpet for the 85th Academy Awards last night was full of sparkle, color, and beaming stars last night.  To be honest, I didn't watch much of the actual ceremony last night- save the James Bond 50 year presentation, and the best film award.  However, I am fairly pleased to read the award results from last night, and now I have a few must-see movies to add to my list (Argo, Life of Pi, anyone?).  But as you 3P readers know, red carpet fashion is pretty much my favorite part of any awards show.  Here I have broken down several trends from the 2013 Oscars, and provided some options for shopping the looks!

The ABCs of winter white

When it comes to fashion rules... there really aren't any these days.  Its more of a 'wear whatever your want' kind of fashion world! Therefore, 'no white between labor day and memorial day' is no longer relevant.  So on these cold winter days, feel free to layer on the white.  Choose a warm cream sweater, a soft jacket or vest to add on top, and a light colored scarf to keep your neck covered.  Add ivory or white pants (jeans or slacks will be just fine, depending on the event you will be heading to), and you will be all jet set in winter white!  What a perfect way to brighten up your cold winter months wardrobe!

PS- looking for the perfect white necklace to add to your winter whites? I am slightly obsessed with this sparkly beauty- plus, it can be worn backward (so that no pave shows) for a more dressed down look!

January blues

It is no secret here on this 3P site that I love to decorate.  For each season.  For each event.  Really, for any day, or anywhere that I am, I love some particularly pretty decorations and seasonal decor just makes me smile.  So although there are not too many 'holidays' in January (except for ringing in the new year and celebrating MLK Jr., right?), and although there is no snow and hardly any severe winter weather in my neck of the woods, I still happily arranged a few January decorations around my home.  Although some may laugh, everyone who lives here and has visited has enjoyed these little beauties. Especially this 3P girl, of course!  To take a peek at some of my other seasonal decorations, click here.

< just some simply blue decor on the kitchen bar- placemats and candles from Pier 1, candle holders from Michael's and Anthropologie >

< simple January table setting with blue hues and a splash of sparkle >

< I created the table centerpiece with a big blue bowl from Homegoods, and a few blue, white, and silver glitter ball ornaments >

< not really a total January decoration, but I gave my little DIY desk calendar from last year a little makeover, and I love it >

< and on another note... here are some blue Tuesday Tootsies to go along with today's post!  Send me pictures of your current favorite shoes and I will feature them in next week's Tuesday Tootsies post! >
